Pyay

Shwesandaw Pagoda

In Pyay, the most venerated pagoda and the largest one is the grand Shwesandaw Pagoda. Apart from the main stupa, no visitor should miss but study the three lithic-inscriptions of King Kyansittha as they are the earliest concrete evidence to prove the historical background of Shwesandaw Pagoda.

Bo Min Gaung's Cave

These footmarks and the temple could be seen between the eastern covered stairway (Monday post) and Tuesday corner (south-east) on the pagoda platform of Shwesandaw.

Duttabaung's bell

The interesting bell is known as Duttabaung's bell with some inscriptions.

Hse-htat-gyi Buddha Image

Another visiting site is the immense Buddha image known as Hsehtatgyi Paya. The Buddha Image itself is known for the tallest of its type and well-proportion structure.

Thirikhittra Ancient City (Sriksetra)

It lies some five miles to the east of modern Pyay and Hmawza village. There is no doubt to the fine-arts of Pyus bestowed upon the remains and excavation findings, indicated the excellent arts and skillful works of Pyu's architecture, silversmith, goldsmith, bronzesmith, glass industry and so on.

Thirikhittra Museum at Hmawza (Sriksetra)

Thirikhittra Museum is consisted of three halls, and one-storey building is in the shape of English alphabet "U". Many interesting objects will narrate the grand culture of Pyu about 2000 years of age if someone has to drop in the Thirikhittra Museum at Hmawza village of Pyay.

Payagyi (The Great Stupa)

It is now located just outside the city-wall to the north-west of Thirikhittra ancient city, dated to the later phase of the 6th -7th century A.D, as the oldest stupa of the vincinity.

Payama

It is one of the oldest stupas in Myanmar and now located just by the road led to Paungtale and outside old Thirikhittra. Payam is closely similar to Payagyi as the high conical dome resting on the series of slight terraces and crowned by an umbrella.

Baw Baw Gyi Stupa

Among the religious monuments, Baw Baw Gyi is the oldest, located just outside the city wall of the southern face.

Be Be Temple

Be BeTemple lies between Baw Baw Gyi Stupa and Laymyethnar Temple outside the southern city wall, a prototype of Later Bagan.

LaymyethnarTemple

It is also located outside the city wall of the southern face and a little far from the Be Be Temple. It is square ground-plan having four entrances. Only the stone slabs of the southern and northern faces can be seen.

Mingyi Hill

It is the best place to take photos on the newly built Nawaday Bridge, the Ayerwaddy River, Po U Hill on the opposite bank and enjoy the sunset. The Buddha images and other statues, such as the hermit, Baidaryi and disciples, reflect themselves in very modern.

Po U Taung (Hill)

It lies on the west bank of the Ayerwaddy River and just across Pyay. Po U is really peaceful and covered with the shady trees, including custard apples.
