Shwesandaw Pagoda
In Pyay, the most venerated pagoda and the largest one is the grand
Shwesandaw Pagoda. Apart from the main stupa, no visitor should miss
but study the three lithic-inscriptions of King Kyansittha as they
are the earliest concrete evidence to prove the historical
background of Shwesandaw Pagoda.

Bo Min Gaung's Cave
These footmarks and the temple could be seen between the eastern
covered stairway (Monday post) and Tuesday corner (south-east) on
the pagoda platform of Shwesandaw.

Duttabaung's bell
The interesting bell is known as Duttabaung's bell with some
inscriptions.

| Hse-htat-gyi Buddha Image
Another visiting site is the immense Buddha image known as
Hsehtatgyi Paya. The Buddha Image itself is known for the
tallest of its type and well-proportion structure.

| Thirikhittra Ancient City (Sriksetra) It lies
some five miles to the east of modern Pyay and Hmawza
village. There is no doubt to the fine-arts of Pyus bestowed
upon the remains and excavation findings, indicated the
excellent arts and skillful works of Pyu's architecture,
silversmith, goldsmith, bronzesmith, glass industry and so
on.

Thirikhittra
Museum at Hmawza (Sriksetra) Thirikhittra Museum is
consisted of three halls, and one-storey building is in the
shape of English alphabet "U". Many interesting objects will
narrate the grand culture of Pyu about 2000 years of age if
someone has to drop in the Thirikhittra Museum at Hmawza
village of Pyay.

| Payagyi (The Great Stupa) It is now located
just outside the city-wall to the north-west of Thirikhittra
ancient city, dated to the later phase of the 6th -7th
century A.D, as the oldest stupa of the vincinity.

| Payama It is one of the
oldest stupas in Myanmar and now located just by the road
led to Paungtale and outside old Thirikhittra. Payam is
closely similar to Payagyi as the high conical dome resting
on the series of slight terraces and crowned by an umbrella.

| Baw Baw Gyi Stupa Among the religious
monuments, Baw Baw Gyi is the oldest, located just outside
the city wall of the southern face.

| Be Be Temple Be BeTemple lies
between Baw Baw Gyi Stupa and Laymyethnar Temple outside the
southern city wall, a prototype of Later Bagan.

| LaymyethnarTemple It is also located outside
the city wall of the southern face and a little far from the
Be Be Temple. It is square ground-plan having four
entrances. Only the stone slabs of the southern and northern
faces can be seen.

| Mingyi Hill It is the best
place to take photos on the newly built Nawaday Bridge, the
Ayerwaddy River, Po U Hill on the opposite bank and enjoy
the sunset. The Buddha images and other statues, such as the
hermit, Baidaryi and disciples, reflect themselves in very
modern.

| Po U Taung (Hill) It lies on the west bank of
the Ayerwaddy River and just across Pyay. Po U is really
peaceful and covered with the shady trees, including custard
apples.

| Akauk Taung There is one more
place to visit worthwhile around Pyay and it is known as
Akauk Taung. The Buddha images are entirely engraved in
relief on the natural rock. These Buddha images can be seen
within a range of 30-50 feet above the sea level. |
