How can they be changed?

“Practising is believing”
We have three optional meditation centres for you to concentrate
your mind and practise meditation.
|
1. Panditarama Forest Meditation
Centre (10-day Course)
It
is a meditation centre as well as a monastery resided by monks.
It was established in October, 1990. It is located in a silent
place not far from the city centre. The Branch is located on
a wide green land about 45 minutes’ drive from Yangon City.
The method of meditation is to examine the sensations arising
within the body, for example, concentrating on rising and falling
of the abdomen while sitting and observing the foot steps while
walking.
Accommodation and food are provided free of charge. Meditatiors
are required 14 hours of formal sitting and walking meditation
in silence and leaving 4-6 hours of sleep in a day.
Strict adherence to the teaching method as instructed is required.
No allowance is given to mix with other meditating methods.
This centre will only accept people with stable mind and decent
personality in order to avoid the obstruction of fellow meditatiors
mentally.
Daily routine starts at 4:00 am until 11:00 pm with time allowed
for meals and baths.

2. Chanmyay Yeik Tha Meditation
Centre(10-day Course)
The
Centre is located halfway between downtown area and Yangon Airport.
The Branch is constructed on 14 acres of green land, located
about 45 minutes’ drive from Yangon City. It has all modernized
facilities to accommodate the meditatiors for peaceful meditation.
Food and accommodation are free of charge and vegetarian food
is available on request.
Meditators are required to practice intensively under the guidance
of experienced teachers with a routine day starting at 3:00am
until 9:30 pm everyday. All daily activities are to be observed
in silence and conducted with mindfulness.

There is a daily timetable applicable to all but teachers give
specific instructions if necessary, depending upon individuals
experience and progress. Meditation instructions and interviews
are given in English on alternate days.

3. Pa-Auk Tawya International Buddhasasana
Meditation Centre (No duration)
It
is located at Mawlamayine in Mon State. It is near the foot
of the blue mountain ranges. It is surrounded by the green forest
and you can feel entire serenity in there. You can also feel
the pleasant atmosphere of its environment.
Accomodation and meals (breakfast and lunch) are free of charge.
All the meals are vegetarian foods.
There is no limitation of the period on the meditation course.
The daily routine starts at 3:30 a.m and ends at 9:30 p.m
Meditation
hours are one and a half per period and 6 periods a day.
The meditation method is concentration on breathing (Anapana)
to get mindfulness. When your concentratin of mind is stronger,
you have to change the method and concentrate on four fundamentals
of phenomena in your body. The more you practice, the more peacefulness
you will find.

Rules for Foreign Meditators
Meditators must strictly observe the fourfold purification during
their stay. This purification consist of

The 227 rules for the monks, the 10 precepts
and 75 training rules for novices, and the 5.8 or
10 percepts for lay persons and nuns. |

Restraint of the six sense faculties- restraint
of the eye, ear, nose, tongue, body and mind. |
| (3) |
Purification of livelihood that accords with
the precepts. |

| Meditation Everyone must attend
the group sittings at their respective meditation hall. Group
sittings are held at the following times: 4:00-5:30 am, 12:30-2:00
pm, 3:00-4:30 pm and 6:00-7:30 pm.
Interviews with Pa Auk meditation teachers are an important
aid to one’s practice.
Meditators must practice according to the instructions of their
meditation teacher.

Smoking, Drinking and Drugs
Smoking, drinking, chewing tobacco or betel nut and the use
of recreational drugs are strictly forbidden.
There are no exceptions to this rule. If you break this rule,
you will be asked to leave.

Attire
Meditators should dress modestly at all times:
| Men – |
no bare shoulders, no bare calves, no bare knees,
no shorts, no sleeveless shirts, vests or undershirts,
no ripped or otherwise improper attire. |
| Women
– |
no bare shoulders, midriff, claves or kness,
no short skirts, no shorts, no sleeveless shirts
or blouses, no thin, transparent, tight, revealing,
brightly coloured or otherwise improper attire. |
